The Board of Sister City Plus invited to their General Assembly at the Old Court House in Lynchburg. About 45 members and guests were present, enjoying wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvres.

The highlights of the year 2009:

Student exchange from Lynchburg to Glauchau/ Germany early summer (  June 15 – 29)
Bert Dodson and wife Theresa traveled as well to Glauchau in September ( 9/15 – 22) to follow an invitation by the Lord Mayor Dr. Peter Dresler.  He is Vice Mayor and City Council member of the City of Lynchburg and will serve as a new member on the Sister City Board.
Their week in Germany was filled with an arranged  flight over the State of Saxony, a visit with the Count Georg von Schoenburg-Glauchau at the castle of Glauchau. There were meetings with Mr. James Seward, the U.S. Consulate General, Leipzig, the Lord Mayor Mr. Dresler, Mrs. Ines Springer, member of the Saxony Parliament, other government employees, police officers, firefighters, hospital personnel,  teachers, and school administrators. All was arranged by Thomas Schreiter, Vice-president of “Friends of Lynchurg” in Glauchau whom he and his wife met before on his visit to Lynchburg in 2007 and 2008.

“Oktoberfest” at the estate of Fuzz Sanders on September 20;     highlights of the event were the report of the traveling students with memorable pictures,  music and games, wonderful foods provided by members, including authentic German Bratwurst and beverages.  Members enjoyed the hiking trail and ended the evening with a bonfire at dusk.

Events so far planned for 2010:

Student exchange from the French Sister City Rueil-Malmaison

Students will visit Lynchburg  in April
A group of adults as well from Rueil-Malmaison plans to visit in October.

Student exchange from the German Sister City Glauchau
11 students and 1 chaperone will visit Lynchburg September 24 – October 6.

Arrangements for all visits are in preparation and more information will follow.
