German police officers welcomed in city
Two police officers from Lynchburg’s sister city, Glauchau, Germany, took part in the D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony Monday at T.C. Miller Elementary School.
The sister city program is designed to foster friendship and communication between different countries. Glauchau became Lynchburg’s second sister city in 2007. The officers arrived in Lynchburg last week and will leave Wednesday.
“They’re doing a good job here,” said R. Haller, a lieutenant in the Glauchau department. “They’re really kind and close to the people here. But I think we’re doing a good job, too.”
Mathias Urbansky, chief of police in Glauchau, said the pair came to Lynchburg to show their American colleagues how they do police work.
“It’s been a great experience for both sides,” said Capt. Ryan Zuidema of the Lynchburg Police Department. “I think it was interesting for the students to see police officers from another country.”
